Well, not quite the front page - pages 36 & 37 to be
precise, but we're delighted to announce that an article about "From
Handbags to Hand Grenades" has appeared in this week's edition of
"Best" Magazine (24th June 2025 - Issue 25).
A few weeks ago, we were approached by their features'
editor, who said they would like to run a story with Kathryn West. A few emails
later, Kathryn sat down with one of their journalists to talk about her life,
career, the book and the profound effect it's had on her while protecting the
people of London for over thirty years.
Originally, it was never Kathryn's ambition to work in the
police force. Back in 1990, she was a research assistant in the House of
Commons and, as a child, had illusions of grandeur of becoming the first ever
female Prime Minister! Although that never panned out, Kathryn says she's proud
of the work she's done, and if a young person asks her if they should join the
force, she will always say yes - do it!
She admits that although the job isn't that well-paid, for
her, it's never been about money. Instead, it's the purpose and the people who
she says make it all worthwhile.
